Expanded signal analysis – Development of psychoacoustic analysis of airborne, and transmission to structure-borne sound signals in drive technology

The FVA-funded (the Research Association for Power Transmission Engineering) project »Expanded signal analysis« (FVA-NR. 679) was conducted together with the Institute of Psychology (AG Angewandte Kognitionspsychologie, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ellermeier). The project dealt with the psychoacoustic perception of gear noise and the transfer of psychoacoustic metrics on structure-borne sound signals.

Active facades for the reduction of sound immissions in buildings

The BMBF project »Active facades to reduce the noise immission in buildings« explored possible uses of multifunctional materials and active counter controls as a means of reducing noise pollution. Together with Schüco International KG, the Research Group SzM developed active systems that fight against unwanted vibrations and oscillations before they are able to cause airborne sound to radiate from structures.

ZIM – Central Innovation Programme for SMEs

In association with the Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM) of BMWi, the Research Group SzM, along with various industrial partners, researched several different issues in recent years:

  • 2009 – The development of a low-noise camshaft adjuster that reduces fuel consumption in internal combustion engines.
  • 2010 – The research and development of a reliable electro-mechanic roll actuator for energy recovery in hybrids and electric vehicles.
  • 2012 – The research of a force-feedback-actuator from an acoustic, haptic, and energetic perspective for the coming E-vehicle generation.
  • 2013 – Development of an active system to raise the efficiency of self-driving machines through the improved decoupling of seats.

Elasto-Opt – Capture, simulation, and evaluation of the thermomechanical damage mechanisms of elastomer components under dynamic mechanical loads

The influence of temperature on the material properties and durability of elastomers was investigated by the Research Group SzM and the Institute of Mechanics at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich as part of the BMWi-funded project »Elasto-Opt«, IGF project no. 400 ZN of the “Forschungskuratorium Maschinenbau e.V. (FKM)”.

Project for the determination of absorption coefficient and insertion loss in the development phase of coating panels

The goal of this project, which was funded by Hessen Agentur, was to support and develop fireproof, sound-absorbing materials. The important considerations were the early evaluation of the various materials and their composition in the development phase.
