Let us introduce ourselves

In modern mechanical engineering systems, an increasing number of technical functions are being integrated. Consequently, they are becoming more complex overall. Function-integrated mechanical engineering systems capture data using sensors, process the data internally, and actively adjust their mechanical properties, for example, to changing environmental conditions. Such systems have to be designed, implemented, and operated efficiently and reliably. Therefore, methods and procedures need to be developed to design and evaluate the reliability of function-integrated systems in mechanical engineering.

The research group System Reliability, Adaptive Structures, and Machine Acoustics “SAM” on one hand, investigates methods by which advanced vibroacoustic and vibration engineering system properties can be designed and evaluated, with passive and active structural measures integrated as functions into the overall system. On the other hand, the “SAM” research group develops methods and procedures to design and evaluate the reliability of passive and active systems. Particularly, these methods and procedures consider that the boundary conditions of product development are changing, such as the decreasing production of prototypes, the increasing complexity of overall systems, the reduction of development times, and the simultaneous distribution of development tasks among multiple working groups.
