As part of a collaboration with Fraunhofer LBF, Airbus and Steiner as well as RWTH Aachen University, highly sensitive sensors based on piezoelectret films and vibroacoustic metamaterials (VAMM) are being developed and investigated.
The EMPreSs project is researching a novel innovative technology made possible by combining VAMM with energy harvesting.
The idea behind this is to use piezoelectrets as spring-damper elements of VAMM's resonators. As a result, the resonators can be used for vibration reduction as well as for energy generation.
With this technology, a significant increase in the energy to be harvested can be expected, which can be obtained both at the setting frequency and over a wider frequency band (stop band).
